The Quick Sip
Delicious as a digestive or as a naturally caffeine free pick me up, this flavourful herbal tea is blended with rejuvenating anise, native to the Eastern Mediterranean, elderberries, rose hip peels, blackberry leaves, marigold and sunflower petals. Iced, it makes a wonderful summer restorative.
Tea Tales
Anise is native to Greece and Crete and was also cultivated by the ancient Egyptians. In the East, Anise was formerly used with other spices such as Mint and Cumin in part payment of taxes as depicted in the 23rd chapter of St. Mathew. The Romans, fond as they were of their extravagantly rich meals, often brought out a spiced cake containing Anise, Cumin and other aromatics to prevent indigestion. Similar cakes were sometimes offered at the end of marriage feasts, and are quite likely the origin of the spiced wedding fruit cake as we know it today.
