The Quick Sip
Organic Green Tea
Best known among China's green teas, Dragonwell was long revered as ‘tribute tea' to the Emperors. The leaves of this organic tea, when made by experienced tea craftsmen are distinctively flat and smooth rather than twisted. The artistry of the tea maker comes into full play as he deftly presses and turns the leaf dry against the wok for a full fifteen minutes. Known in China as Lung Ching or Longjing, our selection has fine flat leaves and a sweet, gentle chestnut flavour. Good for multiple infusions and great while reading.
Tea Tales
This classic green tea gets its name from the Running Tiger Spring, reputed in folklore to house the spirit of a dragon. It was the seemly order of things for the privileged to drink tea made from the year's first leaves using the spring's water. Chairman Mao was partial to Dragon Well. During his two visits to the Liu Village Villa by the West Lake in the early 1960s, he picked Dragon Well tea with his own hands, which was pan fired there and then. He was so fond of its taste that he is quoted as saying: "Nothing is comparable to Dragon Well tea infused with water from Running Tiger Spring".
